CHAINS - Jacques Morel

Jacques Morel is a host, producer and a MoMa Magazine published Polaroid photographer with more than a decade working in digital media. With two four year stints at The Huffington Post and Genius respectively, his experience spans from cultural politics to music. He has interviewed hundreds of people on a variety of mediums, notably John Legend, U.S. Senator Cory Booker, Jamie Foxx, Yara Shahidi, Jada Pinkett Smith, Giuliana Rancic, Ne-Yo, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wiz Khalifa, and many more.

Artist Statement

I am a street Polaroid photographer with a penchant for portraits. The collection I am submitting is called "CHAINS" - 7 Polaroids of chains from different artists captured at Rolling Loud California. The focus on 'chains' is meant to highlight how many black rappers show off their success - an expensive chain. It's also a critique on an industry that has many artists chained to unfair deals - showing that there is more than what is at the surface.

What does being featured mean to Jacques?

“It would mean that this two year hobby that has morphed into something legitimate over the last couple months is not a fluke. Yes, I too am working on not seeking external validation, but this would go a long way.”

Jacques Morel has his first show debuting tonight February 10th at the Hausen Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.
