In 2011, there was a serious nuclear accident in Japan and a big tsunami, Schusei thought a lot about life so he decided to leave Tokyo and moved to Toronto, Canada.

“I spent about a year and a few months there, and then decided to move to Berlin, Germany, where I am currently based. I started to experiment with photography in December 2020 focusing on urban textures and human silhouette. I gradually started to add some poetry and lyrics to my photographs; literature was what I was missing in my art.”

What does Schusei say about his style:

“My style related to photography and literature is inspired by street culture, music, world issues and my personal experiences. Also I've been inspired from books and my favorite artist Kenji Miyazawa. What I'm aiming for my art is not just something that looks cool, but something that leaves a lasting impression. It could be a bad aftertaste, or it could be a feeling of exhilaration or hope for something more in life. My photography would be meaningless without captions. And my captions are meaningless without my photography.”

What being featured means to Schusei:

“I have so much respect for other individuals, and I am thankful for this opportunity. It is an honor for me because all I want for my art is to reach someone's heart.”
